Hi!
Thanks for coming my the blog to read the latest ramble! My name is Renee. I’m 33, I live in Vancouver, BC and I work as a technical writer.
I just finished upgrading my writing skills at the Vancouver Community College by taking their Business and Technical Writing Certificate Program. I highly recommend this program to anyone. The instructors are very experienced writers themselves and incredibly friendly.
I’m also a member of the Society for Technical Communication (STC) Canada West Coast chapter. If you’re looking to meet other people in this field, this is the most direct way to do it. There are seminars (some of them are even free!), a job board and best of all, a chance to make some contacts.
If you want practice at writing and editing, join up with the Plain Language Association International. Their forum on Yahoo is a great place to make contacts and do some writing to keep your mind sharp!
As you might have noticed, this blog isn’t just technical writing, I talk about whatever catches my interest, but writing – any writing – is a great way to keep what skills I have in some semblance of form.

Hey Renee! You won a book and I couldn’t figure out how to contact you, so I’ll try this. I need your mailing address. Which of my books would you like? And let me know if you want me to sign it to anyone.
Take care,
Kim

Your post gave me a good laugh at the end of a tiring day. I’m a total newbie at this but wanted to say hi. Also, wanted to say that one book I can’t write without is my crossword puzzle dictionary. Yea, I know but …

@ Maxi – thank you for the visit! I’m glad I could give you a giggle on a tiring day. I use my Scrabble dictionary sometimes when I’m writing and the OED seems like too much work to flip through.
My other half keeps saying I ought to use the Internet dictionaries, but I’m stubborn and old fashioned. I like my books!
